POSITION OVERVIEW
The General Manager of the Austin, TX BOTE Flagship Store is responsible for delivering sales growth targets, managing all facets (including hiring, training, scheduling, and motivating all staff). The General Manager work collaboratively with Marketing and events team to get BOTE in the community by getting involved, communicating the BOTE brand story, driving a weekly paddle demos, and building strong local business relationships to drive traffic and revenue. The General Manager will be responsible for developing a sales culture with staff while being sure that we are offering a badass in-store experience for each and every retail customer. Austin, TX is first and foremost an immersive Brand experience to all things BOTE, so experience prioritizes revenue.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE
- 100% accountability for the success of Austin store. YOU MUST DELIVER THE NUMBER
- Create sales opportunities for each distinctive market through collaborative networking strategies and promotions. Spending time working in store with staff, meeting local customers in each market, and creating sales strategies for future opportunities to achieve set goals
- Manage the merchandising (look and feel of the store) to BOTE standards.
- Provide financial results based on sales planning and performance. Understanding the profitability of your store and stay within your operational expenses in the achievement of you sales and margin goals.
- Understand your Store’s KPIs and how you and your staff can drive towards them. You will be the primary communicator of KPIs to your staff and the one holding them accountable to them.
- Communicate issues/needs with management (VP of Sales or President of BOTE) with a high sense of urgency
- Work with local groups (Chamber of Commerce, SUP clubs, local restaurants, business, complimentary venues that are on-brand, etc.)
- Have a full understanding of all BOTE products to train your teams and help sell retail customers. Hire, train and motivate your team to deliver results.
- Hold monthly meetings with your retail team to train, review and strategize for sales growth
- Must get involved with any and all store complaints to ensure that each retail customer has a positive BOTE experience
- Maintain positive social feedback scores for Austin
- Create a cadence and Schedule for effective on-water demos throughout the year and as weather permits.
REQUIREMENTS
- Sales and management experience
- You must fit the lifestyle (you cannot fake this). You must enjoy selling and paddling
- Goal oriented, self-starter and able to make good business decisions
- Communication skills that allow you to inform, help and train your team. Good personal presentation, especially when working with sales team and retail customers
- Listening skills, to understand exactly what customers and your team require
- Problem-solving skills
- Confidence, patience, politeness, tact and diplomacy, when dealing with difficult situations
- Motivational skills and an ability to supervise and lead a team of retail employees.
- Creative thinking, to be able to come up with new ideas to increase retail sales and constantly improve the retail experience while working well under pressure
- Organizational and planning skills to manage inventory, staff and operational efficiency in the store.
- Commitment to improve your own sales skills on an ongoing basis
- PC literate
- Possess an amazing positive attitude
- Live or willing to relocate to Austin, TX.

BE CREATIVE – Candidates must be able to look past the obvious, while not ignoring it and assimilate these observations and thoughts into an executable idea. Experience generating new business in the current marketplace and in new markets is a must. Candidates must possess genuine business creativity, with the innate ability to see business opportunities that may not be immediately evident.

Strong record of achievement and demonstrated willingness to ‘roll-up-your sleeves’, with a ‘can-do attitude’ is critical.
EXPERIENCE
- 3+ Years Experience in Retail Sales.
- Experience in small to medium sized businesses is desired. Understanding the operational standards of a fast paced rapidly growing small business will be a key to flourishing in the environment.
- Track record of driving significant revenue and profit growth. In addition, the idea candidate will have proven brand building experience.
- Outdoor & sporting goods experience preferred
- Strength of character and cultural fit. This includes the capability and backbone to provide honest and reasonable dissent, taking an unpopular stance if necessary. He or she will thrive in an open and non-hierarchical environment that requires a high degree of interaction among functions. The ideal candidate will bring high drive but low ego.
